Do you really know your LIMITS?
I used to play Table Tennis. Love it. I still play, but now just for fun.
I watched the Olympics… Table Tennis was spectacular, but kind of foreseeable. The Chinese won everything. Impressed everybody. Took the gold and went home to train, to win more gold.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the fuss around the Olympics, I love the beautiful stories of motivation and determination we see in this awesome competition. But let me share you a secret – if you like the mood the Olympics puts you in, you really need to watch the Paralympics.
A 26 seconds video I saw yesterday had the power to motivate me more then any 2 billion copy soled best seller on self development.
Here it is:
After watching you may say “what a determination! what a power to keep fighting” and you will look at these people with respect and admiration, and somehow thinking that if you were in their shoes you would not be able to do that.
But here I will contradict you. It’s not that you don’t have the power to do great things. It’s not that you don’t have the will and determination to fight until the end.
You know what your problem is? And mine also… You have OPTIONS.
You have the option to be normal. Normal is not good. You know what normal is in my opinion? Normal is mediocre.
Those people you saw in the video above don’t have the option to be normal. They can only be amazing or invisible.
Now think – what if normal is not an option anymore? What would you do? Would you fight until the end to be amazing?
Here is another amazing video about the Paralympics – enjoy it and please let me know what you think in the comments section below!

Hi Sorina,
Awesome videos! And I also think you’re 100% right, we have way too many options to make things easier and keep procrastinating, instead of going for the gold.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day!

Oh my dear God… I had already watched the table tennis video but I didn’t know about the second one, that was freaking incredible for spiking up my motivation.
I just saw a video from Will Smith where he says he doesn’t want to be realistic, why would he want to be realistic if he wants to be the best he can be?
That’s a result that is beyond normal and realistic.
Great videos and fantastic thoughts Sorina!
Sergio
PS. I love to play table tennis but it’s been years that I don’t play it anymore. It seems like my friends are really busy trying to remain sane with their jobs and raising their families at the same time.

Thank you Sergio.
I’m also like very much Will Smith’s speeches. He is probably the smartest actor of his generation.
PS: I guess your friends are trying hard to stay normal?
haha they possibly are Sorina.
Sorina I Love this post!!!!!
Thank you for sharing these videos! It’s really inspiring.
I also agree with you. Normal = mediocre. And because we have options we choose to the easy options.
Please always told me, “you have an engineering degree with don’t you just get a job”.
Well, I don’t want to have an engineering job. Heck I don’t want to work for people and make them rich instead of me.
But a lot of people don’t get it. Most just want to go to the office, make coffee, do a little bit of work, then complain about their job, company or bosses or co-workers etc.
To me that’s also NORMAL. I don’t want to be normal. And I believe so do you Sorina and that’s why we are here, aren’t we?

If you ask the kids what they want to become when they grow up, no one will tell you they want to work in an office, make coffee, do some work and go home to watch TV… everybody had higher dreams, but they just gave up. As an excuse they say that when they grew up they become realistic.
That’s what I hate the most, when people consider being mediocre (normal) is equal with being realistic. The reality is we can do much more then we are doing! That’s the reality.
Being realistic is admitting you are never at your full potential, and can always improve yourself.
Awesome post Sorina. I know I for one need reminding often how fortunate and capable I am
thanks for a great post!

Michelle, I think all of us working from home people need that reminder often, because most of the times we fell somehow of alone in this race, and it’s not a easy race, it’s “me against the world”.
But we are also much disciplined then anyone working in an office, because we really work hard for any penny we make.
That was a really great post Sorina.I never looked at being normal to be mediocre. All said I dont want to be normal anymore. I am going to strive to be better. I also enjoyed the videos. I will be sure to stop back at your blog again.

And probably all of us into IM are a little above “mediocre” by simply having a different mindset, one that pushes ourselves to improve, to optimize, to do better. We just need to take the right actions and always keep our goal in mind.
