Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge – Week One

The Live Webinar

The week one’s webinar from Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge was scheduled, as you probably know from my previous post on my birthday, at exactly 0:00.

Actually the webinar was on a few minutes earlier, and that gave me a good impression.

I attended a few webinars in my life, and I must say that the biggest downside of them is the following: in my opinion the hosts make them longer, by talking nonsense and trying to be funny, engaging, making jokes or any other thing that the webinar is not about… I remember an internet marketing webinar with a lady holding a glass of beer and drinking from that glass for almost an hour – what I actually don’t remember is what she was talking about, I’m sure at some point she reveled a “guru’s well kept secret” – but all I remember is that glass of beer and me thinking “live beer drinking is the new cool thing in internet marketing?!”

What I wanted to point out is: the length of the webinar is not a criteria for the real value of it – in my opinion. If you have a great thing to share and you manage to share it in 3 minutes, that’s ok with me, I got your message and you didn’t wasted my time – that shows respect for me.

Ok, now back to Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge Week One webinar – nothing to complain about this one – had a good intro, talking about where and how Dean started. Motivational.
He talked about how is he doing now (among others has a great BMW – love it) – got my greedy attention.
He talked about Time Management – this is where I need to improve myself.
He talked about being yourself and being honest – one of the first people in IM i hear with this approach.
He didn’t wasted time with off-topic or too general questions. He said the epic “Google It” – thumb up for that!

He assigned a task, just like this – “Create a blog and publish at least a post. If you have time create an about me page”.

You probably know that:
The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives

Source: Wikipedia

This post is one of those personal diary entries for me too, I will state here where I start with Internet Marketing and what is my first goal:

  • Where I start:  good knowledge in webdesign, web development, keyword research and onpage optimization.
  • What I want:  my first $100 day from IM.

I hope, with the help of Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge to be able to accomplish that.

And I kept the best for last – best quote from the webinar, that I wrote down on a PostIt and stick it on my desk, to stop procrastinating because of my crazy perfectionism:

Postit with Don’t Get It Right, Get It GOING

    Hi Sorina,

I,m in Deans challenge also, I read your comment while visiting Martins Blog about having your homework looked at and totally agree with you there, I never thought about it like that but l mentioned on Martins blog that it sort of feels like waiting for your xmas presents to be opened and by the way love your post well written got me interested write from the start I can see you are definitely skilled there, all the best for the challenge

    •

      Hi Nathan and thanks!

Well, I don’t know if that “waiting for your xmas presents” is valid for me… I was a nice kid, always doing good, with no stress for Christmas – but here with Dean’s Challenge I not so sure “I will get my presents”, not sure that “Santa will come by” :)

I’m not sure if what I’m doing is right, but this is also exciting, because pushes our limits to do our best.

  2.

I too am starting this Challenge. I wish you all the best and lookforward to hearing you have your first $100!

  3.

    I also love that quote!

“Don’t Get It Right, Get It GOING”

    Hi Sorina.

I’m also on the challenge. I’m taking comfort in the quote “Don’t get it right. Get it going.” As a bit of a novice I could spend months trying to get things looking good they way I want them to but doing that won’t get anything done.

    Good luck.

    •

      Hi Nick!

I’m looking at things like this: Improving is far easier than starting. So, under “start”, now I only list the basics.
      Small steps, small steps… :)

      Good luck to you too!

  5.

Nice and impressive blog here, seems like you have a good hang of many things already. I’m one of Dean’s students also.

Dean really seems the real deal, you usually don’t hear them calling it out like he does, admitting it’s a slow process instead of selling dreams of instant success.

    •

      Hi Jerkko!

Yes, I like very much Dean’s style. Until now I had the impression that doing IM is mostly telling lies or exaggerating in enthusiasm when promoting stuff, but I guess not…

  6.

    Hi Sorina:)
Great looking blog you have here. Any way you could spill down some hints as to what you used, in terms of settings to get it so far? Any special magical plugins?
Have a great challenge (I wrote a message to you in the challenge.co blog but you didn’t answer:()

    •

      Hi Catalin,

Glad to see you in this challenge!

I’m using a theme made for reviews, I had it and the domain bought since April, and when the challenge started I thought it was about time to have this website going.

Sorry for not answering in challenge.co – I don’t visit it that often. I will check it later and reply.

      All the best!

  7.

    Hi Sorina.

Good on you for taking the challenges seriously.

I am also a member of Dean Holland’s Quick Start Challenge and even though I have been working online for the past 5 years or so, I am taking is very seriously because it is a means to get motivated and take action.

As with anything in life, as was mentioned in todays QSC webinar, nothing gets achieved without first being acted upon. So for anyone out there that is just starting out, don’t just study things! Find one thing that looks like it is something you want to do, TAKE ACTION and master it. Chances are that in a very short period of time, you will make money from it.

Keep up the great work Sorina. I look forward to reading future posts of yours in the near future.

Thank you for encouraging me Kelvin.
      Your advises are greatly appreciated.
I remember at an e-commerce conference a great entrepreneur I admire said that a good idea has no real value if it’s not backed up by intensive work.
So yes, taking action and being consistent is the right way.

  8.

    Hi Sorina,
I agree with your thoughts on the webinars Dean is providing.
Tonight’s was shorter and I thought it was great the way he
got to the point and didn’t waste our time with jokes and
    nonsense, lol.
Good luck to you in the coming weeks.
    Regards, Raz

  9.

    Hi Sorina,

Hi, another one of Dean’s students here!

It’s great to see that that you started taking massive action.

Congratulations with your blog, published posts and your about me page, all good stuff here going on!

It’s a good thing there’s Dean and a few others to guide and motivate us.

Good luck to all of us!

I must admit Dean has a great way of putting things, I’loving it, and surprisingly I’m doing more then I thought.

And the community created around the challenge is awesome, I consider myself luck to be part of it.

Sorina! Beautiful website! Through the magic of Dean Holland, we are all in this together and finally pointed in the right direction. Success to us all!

I’m really glad to see I’m not the only one with a dollar sign goal here. I think it’s important to have a measurable goal so you know if you have made progress, so I commend you on that. I love that you are into website design, I will be going through your website some more just to see what I can learn;)

      Thanks Elisa for stopping by.

Yes, you are correct, having a very clear goal in mind not only helps you realize where you’re standing at the moment, but also motivates you.

To be honest, what motivates me the best is achieving a little success… from there I can go on to achieve more success… little by little to (I really hope) big success.

    Great post here, Sorina!

You’ve sorted out all the important stuff most especially the lessons that Dean imparted about time management, just being oneself, honesty, and the highly moving quote: “Don’t get it right. Get it going.”

Dean hit it right on the head and our great big challenge is to get it going until we get it right.

I look forward to more of your awesome posts. Cheers!

  15.

    Hey Sorina,

Just wanted to let you know I forgot to say Happy Birthday on your other post but oh well, better now than never right?

About webinars, there’s no other marketer that does them as incredible as Omar Martin (another mentor of mine).

There may be a few jokes but there’s a lot of rants, no BS messages and well, I honestly love that man.

But back to our training with Dean, I think you may be able to do well beyond the $100 a day mark.

I don’t like to raise false expectancy but when the quality of your work (your web design skills) are this impressive, I can only see you getting a LOT more than $100 a day.

    I honestly do.

Take care and again, hope to speak soon!

    Sergio

    •

Sergio, after I finish this Challenge I will take a look at Omar Martin, I already started a list with things I need to do to continue my quest in IM.

Somehow I know I can do better, I just need to find the path that is right for me.

And thank you for the birthday wishes, they are welcome anytime ;)

  16.

Sorina, you have done a phenomenal job on this blog! That domain name is absolutely genius.:) As Sergio stated above: you can earn more than $100 a day with your skills! You speak 4 languages! That’s so neat. May you continue to take massive action and enjoy the rewards of doing so.

    See you on Wednesday’s webinar!

Hi Sorina, well if first impressions are to go by, I love your site. Well done, I guess you have been blogging for some time and this blog is not your first attempt? Being a QSC member I just wanted to wish you well with the competition, I have ruled myself out, to give others a chance of winning the prizes. I am taking the liberty to add my video link http://youtu.be/WMuhbZWIDj0 just incase I can help you in the future, should you need any?

    •

Hi Bob and thank you for your comment.
No, I just started blogging – I have experience as a website developer, I made may websites but this is my first personal blog.

Thank you for your wishes, I see you are very confident about yourself, about your chances to win since you ruled yourself out

to give others a chance of winning the prizes

      .
To tell you the truth I think you are just taking advantage of the community created around Dean’s Challenge in order to promote your blog. It may be a sneaky technique, but it doesn’t get my trust, sorry if I may sound rude.

  18.

    Hi Sorina

I like the phrase you used to say that Dean “got my greedy attention” – very explicit and i can relate to that.

And, just like you, the quote that you stuck onto a Post It – “don’t get it right, just get it going” has been a trigger for me as well.

i usually over-think things and then find that i don’t have time to do anything,…
… but using the “…. Just get it going” has certainly motivated me to give action.

i love your site, by the way. it is really attractive

Totally agree with you Dave – same here: many ideas don’t become reality because of my high demands, of my stupid perfectionism. But a lot changed since I joined the challenge!

  19.

    Sorina,

You have a nice blog! enjoyed reading some of your posts! i too can use some help with Time Management. I have found that the more focused i become the let time i waste.

Keep taking that action! You will reach your goals!

As I said, time management is one of my biggest problems. I even use online tools to help me with that. For example I like this one, Teamly, because it only allows you to set 5 things to do for the day – I have this problem with planning, I always think I can do so much in a day, but 5 tasks is really a realistic number.

  20.

    Hey Sorina!

I am glad you were able to attend the webinar even on your birthday!

And if you stick to the challenge Im sure you will be making your first $100 fairly soon! I can’t wait to read about it!

If you have a chance I would love if you could check out me blog, I know you’ll enjoy it!

    Hello Sorina,,

I am also in Deans course and I really like the layout of your blog. You are a very good writer and that is a gift.

They say hardest money ever made is the first $100. After that its just rinse and repeat and getting more traffic and more conversions.

I know you will do well!

    Hi Sorina,

You are doing a great job so far with your site. I never thought about the challenges the way you stated, but you are so right about that. Dean is making us accountable. It’s working. Best wishes going forward in the QSC.

    Rich

  23.

Hi Sorina, a mentor is motivating us to take action ,a mentor should also give us the tools to make it happen, Today i i went through the 4 weeck video of QSC to be fully sincere , maybe out of the chorus , what i learn till now i did already know .Now the recurring income to make internet lifestyle it’s nothing new to me , to be sincere. But to sell memberships as an affiliate in 2012 it’s not as easy as in 2009 , but for sure recurring income can be achieve even selling others than memebership , but anyway you look at it it’s the same old story as an affiliate , with the same old problem of selling , and i guess member will realize later on….
I’m not negative about QSC but i only want to point out some different angle view.
Your Blog is professional and i wish you all the success

      Hi Frank,

Now, after I let some time pass, I completely agree with you.
I made some pennies from this adventure. More exactly I covered the cost of joining QSC. But that was all. In the end I really feel it was only a form of getting us to subscribe (and pay good money) to the other stuff Dean Holland was developing. A little disappointed.
I didn’t do the review video. I didn’t find the motivation, saying QSC is the best thing that happened to me would have been a lie.

But QSC was not useless. It was a great way of meeting new people. It was a great way of understanding what my week points are. It was a good way of confirming what my strong points are.

I don’t regret being part of the QSC, but I admit it, the magic wear out faster then I expected.
